The State of Philanthropy in Central Florida

What will January bring as we leave 2020 behind? With the election in the rearview mirror, we'll be looking at a new president or continuing a current administration, continuing COVID-19 (second wave), plus new approaches to racial justice. The behaviors of philanthropists have changed dramatically in 2020. Some research shows philanthropy declining, while other data indicate a dramatic increase in both 2020 and 2021. Over the last five years, major and planned gifts have evolved to drive significant projects and collaborations in the region, eroding retail and event giving returns. Now, the retail market is reimagined, and there are specific philanthropic market segments that have not existed before. This year's presentation will look at the evolution of nonprofit business models driving these new markets. Among other revelations for 2021, we'll look at evidence of an improving donor market, trends for where gifts might go, and the growing expectation for post-pandemic nonprofit performance. We'll also look at increasing early-stage investments in social enterprise and new capital gift market trends. We'll also check increased engagement and giving in Central Florida in the Gen Z generational cohort.
